DESCRIPTION:Those interested in the Melville Road Bridge Replacement Project over I-44 in Springfield are invited to a public meeting to discuss the traffic impacts during construction and project information on Tuesday\, July 1\, the Missouri Department of Transportation said. \n  \nThe come-and-go style meeting will be held 4:30 – 6 p.m.\, Tuesday\, July 1\, at the Library Station: Santa Fe Community Room\, 2535 N Kansas Expressway\, Springfield. No formal presentation is planned. Those who attend may come at any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to learn about the project and ask questions. \n  \nThose unable to attend the in-person meeting can view exhibits and get project information by visiting www.modot.org/southwest. \n  \nMoDOT is committed to providing access to this event for all participants. If you need a reasonable accommodation or translation services\, please contact Southwest District Communications at 417.895.7600 by June 24. Detour routes include: West Bypass (Route 160)\, Kearney Street (Route 744)\, Kansas Expressway (Route 13)\, Norton Road\n\n  \nTraffic Impacts for I-44: \n\nI-44 CLOSED for up to 2 days during a weekend as crews remove the bridge structure\nDrivers urged to find alternate routes. DESCRIPTION:The Chadwick Flyer Trail offers a vital active transportation corridor between the City of Ozark and the City of Springfield. It is a part of the growing regional trail system. Current efforts are focused on the approximately 12 miles between Sunshine Street in Springfield and the Ozark Community Center in Ozark. DESCRIPTION:The next meeting of the Let’s Go Smart Collaborative will be our Walk & Talk in the Doling neighborhood on April 2nd. We will meet at 4 p.m. at the South Parking Lot/pedestrian entrance of Doling Park (just north of the intersection of E Talmage St and N Robberson Ave). Below is a map of the planned 2-mile route. As always\, we might deviate from the route slightly based on time\, but the goal is to discuss the planned underpass of I-44\, missing sidewalks on N Campbell\, and the planned HAWK (High intensity Activated CrossWalk) signal on Kearney between Robberson and Jefferson. \n  \nThe best transit stop near our meeting point is 2660 N Grant on Route 14 (Atlantic/Grant – brown). There are also stops near/on Kearney on Route 2 (Dale – lime). One stop is at Benton and Kearney\, and the other is at Kearney and Summit. Both stops are on the south side of Kearney\, and the safest way to cross Kearney would probably be at the intersection with Summit since there is a traffic light. Please dress appropriately for the weather\, as there might be a chance of rain

DESCRIPTION:The Ozarks Transportation Organization (OTO) invites the community to join a pop-up event on Monday\, October 7th\, from 1 PM to 4 PM\, as part of its Safe Streets for All initiative\, Destination Safe Streets. The event will take place on W Dale St between N Campbell Ave and N Boonville Ave in the Woodland Heights Neighborhood\, near 2100 N Boonville Ave\, Springfield\, MO 65803. \nThe event will temporarily transform a section of the roadway to demonstrate how simple\, low-cost changes can improve safety and accessibility for all users—pedestrians\, cyclists\, and drivers. Community members will have the chance to walk through the demonstration area\, see these changes in action\, and provide feedback on future street safety improvements. \nIn addition to interactive demonstrations\, the popular food truck “I Love Tacos” will be on-site\, offering delicious food throughout the event. Make one at home OR join us for a free lantern-making workshop 5-7 p.m.\, Oct. 4 at the Creamery Art Center.\n\n\nFull release: https://www.springfieldmo.gov/civicalerts.aspx?AID=11199\n\nOctober is national Pedestrian Safety Month. In 2021\, Springfield started holding annual Lantern Walks to draw attention to our most vulnerable road users – in fun and educational way. \nOrganized through the pedestrian safety program SGF Yields\, the City of Springfield partners with neighborhoods to organize the Lantern Walks. Neighbors\, schools and families are encouraged to build and decorate luminaries ahead of the event. On the first Saturday in October\, starting at sunset\, residents stroll with their illuminated lanterns along a designated route. Along the way\, there are stations where children learn about safe walking habits\, drivers learn about crosswalk laws and parents are encouraged to actively practice safe street crossings with their children. Residents along the route can help make the autumn walk especially beautiful by placing lights along the sidewalks and greeting the children parading with their beautiful lanterns.
